What is dementia? Dementia is a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury and is marked by memory disorders.  Dementia has a much larger meaning to it than just its formal definition.  Dementia isn’t simply a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury.  In dementia, you lose the many joys and experiences that you once had in your life.  Memories that one can never relive or, get back. You lose everything, once you get dementia. Dementia is depression.  It is not knowing the people around you.  Dementia erases all precious memory.  Even the people that you hold close, and dearly.  One could find themselves in a mountain full of depression.  When your loved one,  family member, or friend is diagnosed with Dementia.  No one wants to find out, or see anyone lose their minds over a slow, and gradual process. Dementia is suffering, and loneliness.  Imagine waking up one day and suddenly not remembering your family, or loved ones.  For example, your brothers and sisters.  The people that you grew up with, and lived with for so many years.  Dementia is having no one to talk to, or to relate with.  It makes you feel alone and outcasted, by the people around you.  This creates that sense of suffering, and loneliness in a person. Dementia is a challenging.  Dementia is a challenge for individuals taking care of loved one’s with the disease.  For example, aggression. Aggression is a result of frustration that a person may develop when diagnosed with dementia. Another challenge that may come with dementia is sleep, and rest.  Restlessness and sleep can cause a big issue for many people with dementia. The carer will have to plan out steps, that they would make to ensure that the patient is as restful as possible. Lastly, dementia is death.  In the later stages of dementia,  lack of appetite may develop.  Proper nutrition is important to keep the body strong and healthy.  For a person with dementia, that may become a problem.  Poor nutrition may cause traumatic behavioral symptoms and cause weight loss.  Many people have issues eating or swallowing, and this can lead to choking, chest infections, and sometimes even death. As you can see, dementia is a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury and is marked by memory disorders.  Dementia has a larger meaning than just its simple definition.  In dementia, you lose the many joys and experiences that you once had in your life.  When you receive it your life has begun into new changes, and challenges.
