Virtual Reality is the computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional image or environment that can be interacted within a seemingly real or physical way by a person using a special electronic equipment, such as a helmet with a screen inside or gloves fitted with sensors. Virtual Reality puts one inside of a simulated environment. Instead of viewing a screen in front of them, users are immersed and able to interact with 3D worlds. By simulating as many senses as possible, such as vision, hearing, touch, even smell, the computer present is transformed into a gatekeeper to this artificial world. In commonality, people mainly use this innovative technology to play video games or be put in a specific habitat, giving them a realistic atmosphere and presence. This is very different from previous related technologies because videogames are usually developed on a console or PC. Games like those are played with some sort of device such as a controller, and one uses it to play via the console and television. Meanwhile, Virtual Reality allows users to “be in the game” and take a more realistic approach to the game at hand. One potential advantage is that with increased access to encyclopedias and free full-text books, both students and adult learners are able to expand their knowledge of subjects, and have a larger grasp of knowledge than is possible without a home computer. However, one potential disadvantage is that with increased access to encyclopedias and free full-text books, both students and adult learners are able to expand their knowledge of subjects, and have a larger grasp of knowledge than is possible without a home computer. What I think will happen next with this technology is that the realism and interaction between the user and game itself will only increase as technology advances and becomes for efficient and sufficient. Similar to the Wii and Kinect for Xbox, for example, the user will be more in the game, if not, the game. In my opinion, it will be more fun and enjoyable for me. I enjoy physical activity and playing video games that are realistic. Thus, I cannot wait for what the future has to offer.
