OverviewIntel’s processors have a security bug and the fix could slow down PCs. A security flaw in Intel processors has led to a redesign of Linux and Windows kernels.  The exact bug is related to the way that regular apps and programs can discover the contents of protecting kernel memory areas. The kernel code is usually loaded into a protected area of memory to prevent it from being overwritten by programs or other parts of the operating system. Typically the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management and disk management.Technical Description    From my understanding of the intel bug problem, the main problem is the fact that the kernel memory in the computers is too close to the units process. According “www.theverge.com”  to The problem with this isolation is that some programmers are reporting performance hits after systems are patched. Because of these unknowns that are going on changes/patches for windows mac and Linux, it is, unclear what will happen in later patches. Also “www.theverge.com,” says, Microsoft’s Azure cloud will experience maintenance next week, and Amazon Web Services has warned that a big security update is coming on Friday.    there are two other bugs that are out there, their names are “Meltdown” and “Spectre”. According to “www.theguardian.com” Serious security flaws could let attackers steal sensitive data, including passwords and banking information, have been found in processors designed by Intel, AMD and ARM, But this is going through a semi-change because “Intel has begun providing software and firmware updates to mitigate these exploits.” Although Intel is going to try and fix everything they still can’t say that there firewalls and patches will not slow down computers base on their chips.Recommendations    My recommendations are that we wait for updates on computers and get a recall for the CPU’s, or we take out/move the kernel memory from the cpus. But there are still other ways that this can be fixed for example like what Intel is doing now, if they made a really good firewall there may be problems w/ the bugs and they should but almost unhackable.
