thinking taught in schools and universities have much effect on adult life (Brookfield, 1987, p.147). In adulthood
one tends to think critically when asked a question, may it be on an organizational level or political level.
Leaders who are ready to challenge the validity of existing policies and
political structures are regarded as critical thinkers. Benefit mindset
is bestowed when it benefits both on an individual level and cumulative or
collective level. Everyday leaders who believe in making meaningful differences
in society and putting their actions towards the greater good (Buchanan & Kern, 2017, p.1). The
purpose of this essay is to discuss the how everyday leaders promote well-being
by using critical thinking as a way of promoting good in society. Firstly, how
leaders can use benefit mindset to
promote wellbeing. Secondly how everyday
leaders contribute to the greater good of society. Thirdly the importance of
critical thinking will be discussed and how critical thinking can be used in
conjunction with benefit mindset and
lastly the conclusion.

 

Humanity is facing continued challenges in
terms of population growth and economic problems. These challenges have brought
about a level of appreciation for the interconnected nature of wellbeing. Considering
this a new benefit mindset seems to be on
the rise. Benefit mindset assists one to
reason with one’s self and explores
relationships with events, objects and ideas in the world (Allen,
2012, p.137).  The
drive towards learning, achieving and realizing our visions is one the most
powerful tools we have for creating the future. As citizens of the world we are
also increasingly understanding how issues such as agriculture, human rights,
ecology and even business are generating discussions that bring people together
from many nations, that is a clear sign of benefit thinking colleges (Holowchak, 2009, p.220).
As the great number of individuals are adopting the idea of
benefit thinking, the true leader uses
this mindset to promote well being and
concentrate on developing the leadership qualities necessary for success. Qualities such as honesty,
forward-looking, competence, inspiring and intelligence are clear signs of a
true leader (Nkechi. O & Ikechukwu E.J, 2014, p.69). It is becoming clear to leaders that it is not enough to
address Benefit mindset through
externally focused energies, rather the focus should be to change internally by
shifting our mindsets from the subjective mindset
to benefit mindset. Citizens and leaders are becoming self-confident about their
potential for changing aspects of the world, both on an individual level and collective level (Brookfield, 1987, p.148).

A leader is defined as a person who influences people towards
positive and effective results (Nkechi.
O & Ikechukwu E.J, 2014, p.70. In education,
good teachers are the leaders who promote the well-being
of a student and work towards the greater good of a student. Being a good
teacher requires one to be practical and have good techniques in influencing a
scholar to do their best (Watts, 2004, p.119). Everyday leaders focus on “be well” and “do
good”, they focus on why certain decisions should be taken and go beyond the
boundaries placed by societies to achieve the level of greater good in
humanity. From this perspective, everyday
leaders ask themselves how not to
flourish in isolation, rather how they can all come together and become
partners in each other’s achievements (Buchanan & Kern, 2017, p.4). A good leader is in battle
with greed, power, riches and personal ambitions at any given time. A leader’s
capacity to judge fairly depends on proper assessments of one’s own capacities
with respect to things that are within and outside the moral choice (Holowchak, 2009, p.230). When a person
demonstrates impressive leadership qualities and can figure out solutions to a
problem in an effective manner, they are categorized as born to lead.
Organizations only flourish when individuals are given the opportunity to value
their work and are provided freedom to
actualize their full potential (Steinhoff, 2015, p.21) and by doing so
this practice leads towards the development of a good leader. 

 

 

 

 

Reasoning is a
built-in mechanism that best operates when used. What this means is reasoning
is something that we already do in our daily life and in one way or the other
we tend to think and reason (Allen, 2012, p.140).  An individual who bears the capacity to question
his own reasoning becomes a critical thinker. A critical thinker entails the
power to question his believes and think beyond the boundaries placed by
society or by religion. A critical thinker is always open to new ideas and has
a broader mindset, he is willing to
reflect on his own views and positions. Critical thinkers see the future as
holding endless possibilities, they are self-confident about their potential of
the changing world around them (Brookfield, 1987, p.148). Emotions are a central part of critical thinking, as we
approach to help others think critically, we cannot but help become aware of
the emotions surrounding these activities, for example, asking an individual
about their believes and values can be very emotional for most. Critical thinkers
explore alternatives to existing ways and realizing that so many ideas which
are brought up by assumptions are questionable in many ways (Brookfield, 1987, p.151). Critical
thinking has become a part and parcel of our daily life, many individuals have
begun to think outside the box and this
practice is leading many to become critically thinking leaders.

 

Critical thinking and benefit thinking work
hand in hand with each other and should be applied by individuals and leaders
in society. With the concept of benefit thinking one can think to benefit the
world around them by following the principle of being
good and doing good, once critical thinking adjoins with benefit thinking one
can use innovation and reasoning to bring about positive change in society as a
whole.
